DISASTER RELIEF BY THE INDIAN AIR FORCE FOR FLOOD VICTIMS OF SIKKIM

1. In the wake of unprecedented floods caused by the cloudburst over Lhonak lake in north Sikkim, the Indian Air Force (IAF), as part of its Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR), has commenced operations from Air Force Station Bagdogra.
The IAF has been in a state of high preparedness for the past few days, awaiting improvement in weather conditions to begin its operations in the area.

The Chinook and Mi-17 V5 Helicopters of the IAF operating from Bagdogra Air Base, air lifted Garud Commandos along with essential supplies consisting of Search and Rescue equipment, Fuel, Medicine, and Communication equipment on Air Force Day.

2. The IAF is fully geared up to reach-out to the affected areas and victims of the disaster, as soon as the weather conditions improve.   The aircraft is kept ready for deployment at various locations for transportation of the stranded tourists, the injured, and the weak from the local population to safer locations.
