The countdown has already begun for the 47th International Kolkata Book Fair 2024—the largest attended book fair in the world, recognised by IPA Geneva. The fair is scheduled to be held from 18 January to 31 January 2024 at the BOI MELA PRANGAN, Salt Lake City, Kolkata.

Last year, 2.6 million people visited the book fair, and books worth 25 crores INR were sold. We are amazed at this landmark moment created by the booklovers of West Bengal.

You are already aware that the United Kingdom is the Focal Theme Country of the International Kolkata Book Fair 2024. Today we are very happy to host this National press conference at the British Council of the British High Commission, New Delhi. Madam Alison Barrett MBE, Director India, British Council is with us as our honoured guest along with Dr Debanjan Chakraborti, Director, East and North East India, British Council. They will apprise you in detail about the UN’s participation in the book fair.

Like its previous editions, the 47th International Kolkata Book Fair too will be digitized allowing book lovers from different parts of India and the world to connect with the different programmes of the fair.

To encourage reading of books, a lucky draw will be held during all the days of the fair and 15 lucky winners will get gift coupons worth Rs 1000 per day along with 4 bumper lucky draws where the winners will get gift coupons worth Rs 25000 which can be redeemed at the stalls of the fair.

19 January 2024 will be celebrated as ‘Theme Country UK Day’ and 21 January 2024 as ‘Children’s Day’.

On 24 January 2024, for the first time we will commemorate ‘Senior Citizen’s Day’ in honour of the aged. The program schedule of these days will be communicated to you in due course.

All the National and multinational players of the publishing industry like Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Hachette, Bloomsbury, Rupa, Pan Macmillan, Orient Blackswan, and others will have their own pavilions along with the direct participation of the Countries like United States of America, Germany, Italy, Russia, Spain, Australia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Argentina, Cuba, Peru and other Latin American countries. Also, there is the direct participation of publishers from almost all the states of India—Assam, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, Tripura, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and others.

We are privileged to inform you that the Asiatic Society, the oldest research institution & publishing house in India was founded by a great academician Sir William Jones, who came from England more than 200 years ago. Asiatic Society with the support of the Guild has come forward to showcase an exhibition highlighting the history of the society with special emphasis on the contribution of the British scholars towards the development of intellectual pursuit of India with the United Kingdom.

The 10th edition of the Kolkata Literature Festival (KLF) 2024—an integral part of the Book Fair will be held at the auditorium of the fairground for 3 days—26, 27 & 28 January 2024 in the afternoon. The KLF 2024 will have the presence of eminent literary personalities and celebrities from India and abroad who will join in various interactive sessions. Each day of the KLF will conclude with musical and dance performances in the evenings.
