RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE/SEALDAH APPREHENDED SUSPECTED INTRUDER (ROHINGA) AT SEALDAH STATION
Kolkata, January 09, 2024:
On January 2, 2024, at approximately 14:00 hrs, based on information from the Special Bureau Kolkata, a joint team comprising officers and staff from Railway Protection Force/Sealdah Main and Crime Investigation Branch/Sealdah conducted a special watch at Sealdah Railway station. This action was carried out under the supervision of Post Commander/Sealdah/Main & Sealdah/South.
During the special watch, around 14:50 hrs, a suspicious individual was detained by the team near the ticket booking counter at Sealdah Railway station. Upon inquiry, the person revealed his identity but failed to produce any passport, visa, or legal documents confirming Indian citizenship. Further interrogation led to the confession that he had fled from Myanmar in 2017, residing in the Balukhali camp, in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
On the night of December 31, 2023, he trespassed into India and on January 2, 2024, he arrived at Sealdah Railway station from Bangaon via a local train and was subsequently detained by the RPF team near the ticket booking counter. The person was arrested according to the Foreigners Act. Two (02) mobile phones were seized. After completing due legal formalities, the person was handed over to GRPs Sealdah along with relevant case papers.
