Delhi Police Probe Alleged Sexual Assault Case Inside Sleeper Bus
New Delhi, May 14, 2026:
Delhi Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault case involving a 30-year-old woman who claimed that she was assaulted inside a private sleeper bus in the national capital. Two individuals employed as the driver and conductor of the vehicle have been taken into police custody in connection with the case.
According to police officials, the incident was reported to have occurred on the night of May 11 in the Rani Bagh–Nangloi area of Delhi. Based on the complaint filed by the woman, she had approached a stationary sleeper bus near the Saraswati Vihar–Pitampura locality while returning home from work.
Police stated that the woman alleged she was forcibly taken inside the vehicle, which later moved towards Nangloi, where the alleged offence took place. Following the complaint, the survivor underwent medical examination and an FIR was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Delhi Police confirmed that the two accused persons were subsequently detained and arrested as part of the preliminary investigation. The bus involved in the case has also been seized for forensic examination.
Investigators are currently examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and witness statements to establish the sequence of events. Authorities stated that the investigation remains ongoing and further legal action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
Under Indian law, the identity of the survivor is protected and cannot be disclosed publicly. Media organizations are also required to avoid publishing unverified allegations or details that may prejudice the investigation or ongoing judicial process.
The incident has generated public concern regarding women’s safety and security in public and private transport systems in metropolitan cities. Several public figures and social organizations have called for a fair and speedy investigation in accordance with the law.
