CBI Arrests Army Colonel in Alleged Defence Procurement Corruption Case

IBG NEWS Desk | New Delhi/Kolkata

A senior officer of the Indian Army’s Army Ordnance Corps has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with an alleged corruption case involving defence procurement irregularities and bribery allegations.

According to investigative sources, the officer, holding the rank of Colonel, was allegedly involved in manipulating procurement procedures to favour a private supplier in exchange for financial benefits. The case reportedly revolves around irregular approvals, questionable procurement practices, and alleged misuse of official authority during the tender process.

Investigators believe that the accused officer may have played a key role in facilitating contracts linked to defence supplies, while also allegedly overlooking concerns regarding the quality and pricing of materials procured for military use.

The CBI has registered a case under various sections related to corruption and criminal conspiracy. Officials are also examining the possible involvement of intermediaries, financial channels, and private contractors connected to the alleged bribery network.

Sources familiar with the investigation stated that searches and interrogations are underway to determine whether more individuals were involved in the suspected irregularities. Financial records and communication trails are also being scrutinized as part of the probe.

The arrest has once again drawn attention to transparency and accountability within defence procurement mechanisms, especially in sensitive sectors linked to national security and military logistics.

The accused officer was reportedly produced before a court following the arrest, while further investigation into the matter continues.
