GENERAL MANAGER/EASTERN RAILWAY HOLDS PRODUCTIVE MEETING WITH HON’BLE MEMBER OF NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR SAFAI KARMACHARIS

Shri Amar Prakash Dwivedi, General Manager of Eastern Railway, hold a meeting today with Dr. P. P. Vava, the Hon’ble Member of the National Commission for Safai Karmacharis. The event took place at Fairlie Place, Eastern Railway’s Headquarters, and was attended by esteemed heads of departments, the Divisional Railway Manager of Sealdah, and the Housekeeping Assistant.
A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation detailing the strength and facilities available to the Housekeeping Assistant within Eastern Railway including workshops was presented. A notable highlight of this initiative is the shift in designation from Safai Karmachari to Housekeeping Assistant, signifying a commitment to dignified representation.
At the outset, Dr. Vava said that his contentment with the change in designation emphasized its positive impact. During the meeting, he encouraged the Railways to conduct skill-enhancement workshops for the Housekeeping Assistants to empower them further. Engaging directly with the Housekeeping Assistants, Dr. Vava empathetically inquired about their concerns, ranging from salaries, uniforms, and medical facilities to ESI benefits for contractual staff. Dr. Vava further recommended periodic medical tests considering their exposure to challenging and unhygienic work environments.
The meeting concluded on an affirmative note, characterized by the spirit of cheer and shared dedication towards the well-being and growth of the Housekeeping Assistant community within Eastern Railway.
