RTI SEMINAR WAS ORGANISED BY THE SEALDAH DIVISION

Kolkata, June 04, 2024.

The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 was promulgated by the Parliament of India which sets out the rules and procedures regarding citizens’ right to access information under the control of public authorities. The RTI Bill was passed by Parliament on 15th June 2005 and came into force with effect from 12th October 2005. This landmark act is aimed to promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority. When the RTI Act was enacted, the Supreme Court unequivocally regarded it as a path-breaking legislation. Every day on-an-average, over 4800 RTI applications are filed.

In an endeavor to explore the nuances of the RTI act, a seminar was organized at B.C.Roy Auditorium/Sealdah on 03.06.2024. Staff and officers of different departments took part in the seminar. The seminar was graced by ADRMs and other divisional officers. Officers & staff took part in threadbare discussions of the act. The elaborated discussions were beneficial for all the officials present there. The seminar was followed by an interactive session in which some specific critical cases were discussed at length. The seminar was immensely beneficial indeed for all the participants.
