A Full Circle of Healing: From Heart Patient to Care Coordinator at Narayana Health
Kolkata: Sanjana’s story is one of hope, resilience, and a full-circle moment that spans over two decades, beginning with a life-saving surgery and culminating in a rewarding career at Narayana Health.
Born on October 6, 1988, in Purulia, West Bengal, Sanjana’s early childhood was marked by concerning symptoms. At the age of three, she exhibited shortness of breath, sensitivity to cold, and blue nails. The local doctor diagnosed her with a hole in the heart, assuring her family that the condition might close on its own as she grew older.
However, the symptoms persisted. At the age of 10, Sanjana experienced a frightening episode of losing consciousness at school. This alarming incident prompted a re-evaluation of her condition.
In 1998, her family attended the Bhoomi Pooja ceremony of Narayana Hospital RN Tagore Hospital, commemorating the construction of the hospital’s first building. During a free heart check-up camp organized at the site, Dr. Devi Shetty, a renowned cardiac surgeon & founder of Narayana Health examined Sanjana and confirmed that the condition had not improved and, in fact, the hole had grown larger. He recommended an immediate open-heart surgery to correct the defect.
On June 26, 1999, Dr. Shetty performed the critical operation. His expertise and compassionate care ensured a successful surgery, giving Sanjana a new lease on life. Over the years, she grew up healthy and strong, always remembering the kindness and life-saving expertise of Dr. Shetty.
With renewed health, Sanjana pursued her education with determination, completing her master’s degree in 2012. Her dedication and hard work culminated in her joining Narayana Health Kolkata in June 2012, the very institution whose founder Dr Shetty that had given her a second chance at life. Her role involves assisting cardiac patients who travel from distant places & coordinating their consultations with the cardiac specialist, much like what she once needed herself.
