An event titled “I Am a Citizen Too” was organised by High Court Advocate Ms. Sampurna Ghosh. The programme focused on awareness, rehabilitation, and social inclusion of inmates and interns from correctional homes in West Bengal, with special reference to Dumdum and Presidency correctional homes (Jail).

Eminent personalities graced the event. The Chief Guests were Hon’ble Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya and Aloka Nanda Devi. Other distinguished guests included Mr. Kunal Ghosh, a noted media person, and Dr. Manabi Bandyopadhyay, social activist and academician. Their presence added great value to the discussions and inspired the audience.

The central theme of the event revolved around correctional homes, rehabilitation of interns, and the importance of providing second chances to individuals who have once fallen into the world of crime. A powerful tribal dance performance was presented by interns, symbolizing hope, cultural identity, and transformation.

The programme also showcased a meaningful short film portraying the life of an intern who had once entered the criminal world due to wrong influences and social circumstances. The film highlighted how unemployment and depression among youth often lead them towards negative paths. It depicted the emotional journey of the individual, his separation from family, the realisation of mistakes, and eventual transformation. The film concluded on a positive note, showing that the individual completed his post-graduation and is now earning a respectable livelihood, and the lifestyle of Correctional Homes.

Through discussions, performances, and visual storytelling, the event strongly conveyed the message that every individual deserves a second chance and that inmates and interns have the right to live a normal life with dignity, just like any other Indian citizen. The event was informative, emotional, and socially impactful, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.
