10th West Bengal Inter-School Karate Championship Draws 1,200 Rising Martial Arts Stars
Hanshi Premjit Sen Champions Youth Discipline Through Martial Arts
Kolkata, January 25, 2026: The 10th West Bengal Inter-School Karate Championship and Bengal Little Legends Cup, organised under the initiative of Hanshi Premjit Sen of the All India Seishinkai Shitoryu Karate-Do Federation, was attended by former cricketer and ex-CAB administrator Sambaran Banerjee. The event, held on Sunday at South City International School, saw participation from around 1,200 students representing 120 schools across the state.
Hanshi Premjit Sen, pioneer of the All India Seishinkai Shitoryu Karate Do Federation in Bengal, the championship has grown into one of the most prestigious inter-school martial arts platforms in West Bengal, both in scale and professional execution.
The one-day sporting spectacle unfolded across 7 Tatami (competition arenas) and was officiated by a panel of 70 National Judges, ensuring high technical standards and fair play. The scale of participation and level of organisation made it one of the largest inter-school martial arts events in the state.
Addressing participants and spectators, Hanshi Premjit Sen highlighted the larger purpose behind the championship. “Through martial arts, thousands of young athletes can find direction, discipline, and the confidence to dream big. This championship is not only a competition but a celebration of discipline, character building, and sporting excellence, aimed at shaping the future generation of champions,” he said.
The event was graced by distinguished guests including Mr. Sambaran Banerjee, renowned former cricketer and former administrator of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), and Mr. Kamalesh Chatterjee, Vice President of the Bengal Olympic Association, underscoring the growing recognition of karate as a serious competitive sport at the grassroots level.
The highlight of the day – the Bengal Little Legends Cup is a dedicated platform for emerging young martial artists. Positioned as a tribute to the state’s budding talent, the Cup provides children with an opportunity to compete on a professional stage, learn from experienced judges and coaches, and gain early exposure to competitive karate.
Beyond medals and trophies, the championship reinforced the role of martial arts in promoting focus, resilience, and self-confidence among students—values that extend far beyond the Tatami.
With participation rising every year, the West Bengal Inter School Karate Championship continues to strengthen the foundation of grassroots martial arts in the state, nurturing a generation of disciplined athletes and future champions.
