Kolkata, March 28: Honorable Union Minister of Home and Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today launched the chargesheet on TMC in Kolkata, West Bengal. Shri Shah said, the upcoming election is important not only for Bengal but for the entire country. In a way, the security of the whole nation is linked to the election in Bengal. After the Bharatiya Janata Party formed the government in Assam, infiltration in Assam has been stopped. Now, Bengal remains the only route through which infiltrators enter and spread across the country, compromising national security.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to raise the issues of the people against the rule of the Trinamool Congress, amplify the voice of the people, and present it before the people of Bengal and the nation. We are also bringing forward the reality of the lawlessness that has spread under TMC rule.
Today’s press conference is aimed at presenting our chargesheet against 15 years of TMC governance before the people. This is a chargesheet of the people of Bengal against the Mamata Banerjee government, and the BJP is giving voice to it. In a way, the upcoming election is for the people of Bengal to decide whether they want fear or trust. Bengal should join the pace at which the country is progressing with confidence, free from fear.
Over the past 15 years, politics of fear, corruption, and discrimination has prevailed. Mamata Banerjee has introduced a new political theory of advancing politics through lies and violence. Any government should be elected based on public welfare, but TMC’s foundation is lies, fear, and violence. The BJP has been fighting against this since 2011. I believe that this time, the people of Bengal will form a BJP government with a full majority.
This chargesheet is a compilation of 15 years of TMC’s misdeeds. It tells the story of a governance that promised “Sonar Bangla” but instead exploited the people. Under TMC misrule, Bengal has become a laboratory of corruption. Criminal syndicates from top to bottom are harassing the public. Due to lack of development, Bengal has become a graveyard for industries.
Bengal is suffering from fmajor failures under TMC: protection to infiltrators, appeasement politics, institutionalized corruption, widespread “cut money” practices, and no action against syndicates. The people who once brought TMC to power with hopes of “Sonar Bangla” are now saying that even the communists were better.
The people of Bengal have consistently supported the BJP. In 2014, we had a 17% vote share and 2 seats in the Lok Sabha. In 2019, our vote share rose to 41% and we won 18 seats. In 2024, we secured around 38% vote share and 12 seats. We have established a strong base of around 40% vote share. In the 2016 Assembly elections, we had 10% vote share and won only 3 seats, but in 2021, we increased to 38% and won 77 seats.
Congress and communists, who ruled for decades, have now been reduced to zero seats here. After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the NDA has won in several states like Maharashtra, Haryana, Odisha, Delhi, and Bihar. I am confident that our cadre has reached every household and amplified the voice of the people. This time, the people of Bengal have decided to bring a BJP government with a massive majority.
This election is about freedom from fear—fear for life, fear of losing freedom, property, employment, women’s safety, and the future of youth. It is also about trust—trust in peace, dignity, healthcare, housing, electricity, water, employment, and a future free from infiltration.
Under Modi ji’s leadership, the country is progressing rapidly, and Bengal wants to join this journey. Since 2014, the BJP has formed governments for the first time in several states including Assam, Tripura, Odisha, and others, and now Bengal is next.
Mamata Banerjee has played “victim card politics.” Sometimes she presents herself as injured or victimized and attacks constitutional institutions like the Election Commission. This does not suit Bengal’s culture. The people of Bengal understand this well.
Regarding SIR, it is being conducted across the country, but only in Bengal judicial officers had to be deployed. Why? Mamata Banerjee must answer this. District magistrates here could not work fearlessly, which led to Supreme Court intervention.
The people of Bengal must decide whether infiltrators, who have been made voters, should decide Bengal’s future. The BJP is committed to removing every infiltrator from the country, not just from voter lists.
The double-engine government has delivered results in states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, and Tripura. Now it is Bengal’s turn. This election is also about freedom from syndicates.
Infiltration is a serious issue—it affects national security, wages of workers, food distribution, and employment opportunities. I ask Mamata Banerjee: how have so many infiltrators entered? This can stop only if land is provided for border fencing. Around 600 km of fencing is incomplete because the state government did not provide land despite repeated requests.
Appeasement politics has reached extreme levels. For example, the minority budget allocation is ₹5713 crore, while for backward classes it is ₹2533 crore despite their larger population. Similarly, 77 communities were added to OBC, of which 75 are Muslim. Should OBC classification be based on religion?
Due to infiltration, even the security of the Siliguri Corridor is at risk. Smuggling and fake currency are affecting the economy. Women’s safety is also in a poor condition, with thousands of cases reported. In several cases, TMC leaders have been accused or protected.
There have been multiple scams: teacher recruitment scam (26,000 jobs cancelled), job card scam, housing scam, mid-day meal scam, road scam, relief scams, and cattle smuggling. Over 20 TMC leaders have gone to jail, yet received tickets. Mamata Banerjee has turned Bengal into a hub of scams, including the ration scam, teacher recruitment scam, MGNREGA job card scam, and cattle smuggling. The slogan “Maa, Maati, Manush” has been betrayed. TMC is busy in corruption and syndicate politics, while people are suffering and demanding change. In the past 15 years in West Bengal, anyone who has committed crimes against women will be tracked down—even from the depths—and put behind bars.
I am confident that the people of Bengal will elect a BJP government under Narendra Modi’s leadership. Through our upcoming manifesto, we will present a roadmap for building “Sonar Bangla” as envisioned by Rabindranath Tagore.
I appeal to the people of Bengal: give up fear, come out to vote in large numbers, and uproot the TMC government completely.
