Kolkata Metro Services Briefly Disrupted Twice on Blue Line Following Track Intrusion Incidents
Kolkata, June 27, 2026: Metro services on Kolkata’s Blue Line were disrupted twice on Saturday following separate incidents involving persons entering the tracks at two stations. Prompt rescue operations by Metro Railway personnel enabled the restoration of normal services within a short period on both occasions.
According to the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Metro Railway Kolkata, the first incident occurred at Kalighat Metro Station at around 7:20 a.m. on the Up line.
As a precautionary measure, Metro authorities introduced truncated services between Maidan and Dakshineswar and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Shahid Khudiram stations while rescue operations were carried out.
The individual was safely rescued, following which normal train services across the entire Blue Line resumed at 7:44 a.m.
Later in the afternoon, another similar incident occurred on the Down line at Belgachia Metro Station at approximately 3:09 p.m.
During the rescue operation, Metro Railway operated truncated services between Girish Park and Shahid Khudiram stations to ensure passenger safety and facilitate emergency response efforts.
The rescue operation was completed successfully, and full services on the entire Blue Line resumed at 3:56 p.m., according to an update issued by the CPRO.
Metro Railway thanked commuters for their patience during the temporary disruptions and reiterated its commitment to passenger safety and the swift restoration of services during emergencies.
