Zurich, July 29: The FIFA Fan Festival™ has set a new benchmark during the FIFA World Cup 2026™, attracting more than 9.017 million visitors across 13 Host Cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The turnout marks the highest attendance recorded since the Fan Festival concept was introduced during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Designed to bring the excitement of the World Cup beyond the stadiums, the FIFA Fan Festival offered supporters a unique blend of live football screenings, music, entertainment, cultural performances, food experiences, and interactive fan activities throughout the tournament. All 104 FIFA World Cup 2026 matches were broadcast live at festival venues, allowing millions without match tickets to experience the global sporting spectacle together.
The programme concluded on 19 July, when nearly 264,000 fans gathered across eight remaining festival sites to watch Spain lift the FIFA World Cup trophy after defeating Argentina in the final. Overall, approximately seven million spectators attended matches inside stadiums, while the Fan Festival extended the tournament experience to millions more supporters in public venues.
The largest single-day attendance came on 27 June, with over 543,000 visitors participating in Fan Festival activities during the final day of the group stage. Mexico City emerged as the busiest host location, welcoming more than 2.57 million visitors over 36 operating days.
According to FIFA, the festival operated for a combined 348 days across the 13 host cities, delivering nearly 3,200 hours of programming that combined football with local culture and entertainment. More than 873 musical performances were staged during the tournament, featuring internationally acclaimed artists including Pitbull, The Chainsmokers, Ludacris, deadmau5, Imagine Dragons, Enrique Iglesias, Flo Rida, Chayanne, Nora Fatehi, and several regional performers.
Each host city incorporated its own cultural identity into the celebrations. Toronto hosted a major countdown concert before the tournament, Mexico City’s historic Zócalo became one of the world’s largest football viewing venues, while Atlanta, Vancouver, Monterrey and other cities combined music, local traditions, and football-themed entertainment to create distinctive fan experiences.
Beyond football, visitors enjoyed family-friendly activities, appearances by FIFA Legends, official merchandise stores, local cuisine, interactive sponsor zones, and community events. Commercial partners established 113 activation spaces across the festival network, while millions of commemorative Fan Bands and merchandise items were distributed throughout the competition.
The event also generated a massive digital footprint. FIFA reported that Fan Festival-related content accumulated 811 million video views across its digital platforms, while more than 22,000 accredited media representatives covered the celebrations from the host cities.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the FIFA Fan Festival as one of the defining features of the 2026 World Cup, saying it enabled millions of supporters to share the excitement of the tournament even without entering a stadium. He noted that the combination of football, music, culture, and community created an inclusive atmosphere that reflected the global spirit of the World Cup.
Beyond setting attendance records, FIFA said the Fan Festival programme created a lasting legacy by transforming public spaces into vibrant community hubs, supporting local businesses, performers, volunteers, and cultural organisations while providing fans with a safe and accessible way to celebrate football together.
