Hyderabad: Vata Foundation already a name for their effort to save trees and now the are helping Forest Department for Translocation to the rescue of a forest, the first of its kind in the state. Nearly approx 750 acres of forest area would have been axed in sake of development will get a fresh extension of life due to the translocation method.

Satthupally village in Khammam district under the Singareni phase II an open cast mine project would have cut down the forest but thanks to Vata Foundation team is now being saved by translocation. The trees to be translocated include satin, manilkandra, xylia and bahinia.

The divisional forest office called Vata Foundation, to undertake the mammoth task of  translocation on an experimental basis.

“We have translocated seven different species of trees at the adjacent forest area and are waiting for the results,” said Mr V. Satish Kumar, divisional forest officer.

If they can withstand and survive, then over 2,000 small tress would be translocated to save the forest area which is close to the mining project.

The trees in the forest are known for their deep roots and inter webbing, making translocation a Himalayan task.

“This is an experimental venture as forest trees are a new area for us. We have kept the trees under observation to see if they take roots,” said Mr U.K. Pedireddi of Vata Foundation.

This effort is not only saving the trees but also the natural habitats comprising of Birds, Squirrels, Ants, Butter Fly and Honey Bees as well.
