EX MSC SECRETARY SK. WASIM AKRAM HELPS STRANDED AFRICAN FOOTBALLERS
Sk. Wasim Akram, the Ex General Secretary of Mohammedan Sporting Club, has once again set an example of humanity. Last week the young football administrators reached Agarpara to stand beside Kolkata Maidan’s Logence Didi Jamuna Das and today placed a helping hand on the shoulders of around 40 odd African footballers stranded in Kolkata due to Covid-19 lockdown imposed by the state government.
Like many other states of the country, West Bengal has been under lockdown for more than a month since the second wave of Corona hit the country in April, which left these 40 odd players to grope in dark. Most of these players make their living from khep, but for the past few months due to the state assembly election and the subsequent lockdown, all kinds of sporting activities have been closed in the state. As a result, the players were having a tough time and Wasim could not stay at home after receiving the news. Wasim himself reached Newtown to stand by their side, handing over their daily needs as well as financial help.
Wasim said, “I am known for football today, so it is my duty to stand by football and footballers. I have come here today because of that duty. I am happy to be able to do something for them and I will try to be by their side in future also.”
