IGNCA to organize an International Seminar on ‘Ramayana in South East Asia’ and an Exhibition ‘Ram Darbar’
New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in collaboration with MDSD Foundation & Advent Foundation is going to organize an International Seminar on Ramayana in South East Asia along with an exhibition ‘Ram Darbar’ here at Samvet Auditorium, IGNCA.
The seminar and exhibition will take place on 13th and 14th June from 11 Am onwards. During this two-day event speakers from South East Asia and other countries of the world will speak on different aspects of Ramayana, its influences, and Culture. The representatives will be from India, the Kingdom of Cambodia, Thailand, Srilanka, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Montenegro.
Bunthon LY from Cambodia will speak on the topic ‘The Reamker in Khmer Culture’ whereas Anita Bose, an associate in Asian Studies Chulalongkorn, University and National Museum Bangkok will speak on ‘Ramayana Footprints in various South Asian Countries Thailand- a unique amalgamation of mix culture values’. Gayathri Suveendran of Srilanka will speak on ‘Ramayana and Tourism Development’, and Joef Santarita of the Philippines will speak on ‘Variation and Variants: The Ramayana in Contemporary Philippines’. Prof. Tatjana Burzanovic of Montenegro will be delivering the lecture on the topic ‘Ramayana from the Perspective of European Art and Tradition’. The representative from Indonesia Prof. Dr. I Wayan Rai S will speak on the topic, ‘The Hidden Mirror: Ramayana in Balinese Life’.
The two Indian representatives from the School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, at Jawaharlal Nehru University will also speak during the conference. Dr. C. Upendra Rao will deliver his lecture on the topic, ‘Ramayana’s influence on temples, paintings and performances of Combodia’ whereas Prof. Birendra Nath Prasad will speak on ‘Ramayana Tradition in Central Vietnam and Angkor’.
Associate Professor Virendra Bangroo of IGNCA will speak on ‘Ramayana Murals in Shivalik Himalaya’. Besides the lecture, there will be performances by ‘Traditional Dance of Ramayana by Prince Buppha Devi Dance School’, Kingdom of Cambodia, and Mudra Dance Group, Kolkata. An exhibition ‘Ram Darbar’ will also be put up by ‘Virasat Art’ (Ganesh Pratap Singh).
