TRAIN SERVICES AFFECTED DUE TO OBSTRUCTION AT BARRACKPORE

Peak hour train services in Sealdah – Barrackpore – Naihati Main Line section were affected today (17.7.2023) as a group of people obstructed train movement from 09:07 hrs. near level crossing gate No. 14T of Barrackpore demanding construction of a new foot over bridge at Naihati end (Northern End) of Barrackpore station. Senior Railway officials including Sr. Divisional Engineer, Sealdah rushed to the spot to discuss the issues with the agitators. It may be noted that the proposal for the construction of a new foot-over bridge has already been sent to Railway Board for approval. The construction work will begin as soon as the necessary approval from Railway Board is received.
The obstruction was withdrawn at 10:44 hrs. and afterward normal train services in the section resumed.
As a sequel to this, a total of 12 pairs of EMU locals had to be cancelled and 20 local trains were delayed en route for more than one hour on average. Shri Kausik Mitra, Chief Public Relations Officer/ Eastern Railway is very much concerned with the trouble faced by officegoers due to such obstruction of train movement. He opined that the obstruction on the first working day of the week at peak hour has resulted in suffering to lots of commuters. There was ample scope for the pressure group to discuss their issues in a suitable forum, instead, they resorted to obstructing train movement causing harassment to the lots of passengers.
