In this world of external gratifications, trying to outshine others pushes one to adopt ruthless means to beget instant results. Little one does know the aftereffects and long-term damage of such endeavors. No more so than in the realms of beauty.
To go “contrarian to the existing false-images of beauty ingrained in our psyche”, as Poulomi Roy, Head of Marketing & Communications, put it and to put it across straight specially to the budding-generation, the organization she works for, Joy Cosmetics had floated, ‘Asli Chehra Selfie Contest’ via Joy Skin Fruits Face Wash. It sat cozily with their philosophy of ‘beautiful by nature’.
Roping college students in their own game, this month long activity had attracted 2000 collegiate each from Kolkata and Siliguri. The selection criterion was to be as much one’s own self as possible complete with flaws and quirks. “It’s imperfections that make one stand out, else everyone would be homogeneous. The whole idea of this is to celebrate the imperfections”, emphasized Poulomi, adding, “We were looking for personality, positive energy and smiley face”. An on ground team along with EMCEE and Promoter went to the colleges and selected 5 winners from each college and one from each became the respective college-winners. Those 50 had gathered just the other day, at The Park in the hope of being the three that will emerge the ultimate winners.
Ever young, June Maliah, who had earlier announced the event was again present on the final day of judgment. Speaking on the occasion she said that she hardly goes to parlor to maintain herself.”Beauty is what you are sent with, keep it natural, keep it beautiful”.
Though there was no grand pronouncements for the winners as Roy iterated “celebrating beauty for the sake of it. We are not making any tall claims of making anybody famous or providing a greater platform for achievements”, but there was a gala evening of fun, food and music fueled by Suswati Mallick of SA RE GA MA PA fame.
