Captains of industry in Kolkata to felicitate Mamata Banerjee

Chambers of Commerce of the city are planning to jointly host a felicitation programme to mark West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s second term in office. Altogether nine chambers of commerce including two national industry associations ASSOCHAM and FICCI are also set to join the programme scheduled for June 7.
This would be the first such programme since Ms Banerjee came to power in May 2011.
The Indian Chamber of Commerce, which initiated the move, said that over the last five years, the Trinamool Congress government has made many overtures to the industry formally and informally and industry felt that this was the time to reciprocate.
The Trinamool government has announced new policies for the textile sector as well as for micro, small and medium enterprises as well for start-ups. The Government has also eased business by enabling time barred processes for land conversion for setting up industries. Around 49 industries have been exempted from environmental consent from the state pollution control board.
Invitations are being sent to all the city industry houses and their heads to attend the meeting and speak. The industry too is looking forward to hear from Ms Banerjee her plans for the industry. “ We are eagerly waiting to hear the Chief Minister’s road map for the industry for the next five years ”, a chamber official said
The chambers which are expected to participate at the meet, are the Indian Chamber of Commerce, the Bengal Chamber of Commerce, the Merchants Chamber of Commerce, the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce, the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce and the Oriental Chamber of Commerce, besides ASSOCHAM and FICCI.
