RBI’s disbursement of new notes discriminatory: Mamata Banerjee
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) disbursement of new currency notes to States has been discriminatory.
With long queues outside banks and ATMs running dry on the first day of the month, Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter and wrote, “The salaried class people are not getting their own money from banks for their livelihood”, adding that if the organised sector was facing such serious crisis then one could easily imagine how grim the situation in the unorganised sector was.
Taking the country’s central bank head on, the Trinamool Congress supremo alleged that the RBI had “not given many state governments critically necessary funds despite announcements & promises”.
Rare Commodity
Terming the new Rs 500 note as a “rare commodity”, Mamata Banerjee alleged that the new notes have not been seen in most parts of Bengal.
“There is total discrimination in disbursement of cash between States,” she wrote on Twitter, adding that the RBI must release figures regarding how much currency was given to each state.
Demonetisation “draconian”
Ever since the Modi government’s announcement on demonetisation, Mamata Banerjee has been steadfast in her criticism of the move. The Trinamool Congress has demanded a complete rollback of the decision, terming it “draconian”.
In fact, Mamata Banerjee was the first Chief Minister to oppose the move. She has led protests against the move in Delhi, Lucknow and Patna.

বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বৃহস্পতিবার অভিযোগ তোলেন, রাজ্যগুলোতে নতুন নোট পাঠানোর ক্ষেত্রে বৈষম্যমূলক আচরণ করছে রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্ক।
মাসের প্রথম দিন ব্যাঙ্ক ও এটিএম কাউন্টারগুলোর বাইরে সুদীর্ঘ লাইন হলেও ব্যাঙ্ক ও এটিএমগুলির ভাঁড়ার শুন্য। দিদি টুইটারে লেখেন “চাকুরীজীবি মানুষেরা নিজেদের সংসার চালানোর জন্য নিজেদের হকের বেতনের টাকাও পাচ্ছেন না।”
তিনি গভীর উদ্বেগের সঙ্গে জানান, যদি সংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রে এই পরিস্থিতির সম্মুখীন হতে হয়, তাহলে অসংগঠিত ক্ষেত্রে পরিস্থিতি কি ভয়ানক তা অনুমান করা যায়।
তৃণমূল নেত্রী বলেন, “অনেক ঘোষণা ও প্রতিশ্রুতি দেওয়া সত্ত্বেও রাজ্যগুলিকে প্রয়োজনীয় নোটের প্রায় কিছুই পাঠানো হয়নি।”
বিরল বস্তু
নতুন ৫০০ টাকার নোটকে “বিরল বস্তু” আখ্যা দিয়ে মাননীয়া মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় বলেন, বাংলা সহ দেশের বেশির ভাগ জায়গাতেই এই নোট দেখা যাচ্ছে না।
তিনি টুইট করে দাবি জানান যে রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্কের এখনই জানিয়ে দেওয়া উচিত কোন রাজ্যকে তারা কত টাকা পাঠিয়েছেন।
