On International Tea Day, Bengal CM appeals to the Centre to extend help to Bengal tea garden workers
On the occasion of the International Tea Day, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee again requested the “Centre and RBI to extend a helping hand to the tea garden workers in Bengal.”
Reiterating the fact that the tea garden workers in north Bengal are starving and dying due to demonetisation, she made an appeal to the RBI to immediately restore payments by the Bengal Government through the district magistrates.
Earlier in the day, Trinamool Congress staged a dharna near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside the Parliament to protest against demonetisation. The Trinamool MPs of both the Houses were present at the dharna. They highlighted the plight of tea garden and jute workers through slogans.

আন্তর্জাতিক চা দিবস উপলক্ষে বাংলার মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় আবারও আর্জি জানালেন, “কেন্দ্র ও রিজার্ভ ব্যাঙ্ককে বাংলার চা বাগানের শ্রমিকদের দিকে সাহায্যের হাত বাড়ানোর অনুরোধ জানাচ্ছি।”
তিনি আবারও বলেন যে নোট বাতিলের ফলে উত্তরবঙ্গের চা কর্মীরা দুর্দশায়, অনাহারে দিন কাটাচ্ছেন। তিনি রিজার্ভ ব্যাংকের কাছে আর্জি জানান যত তাড়াতাড়ি সম্ভব জেলাশাসকদের মাধ্যমে চা বাগানগুলিতে অর্থ যোগান দিতে।
অন্যদিকে, আজ সকালে সংসদের বাইরে গান্ধীমূর্তির পাদদেশে তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস সাংসদরা নোটবাতিলের বিরুদ্ধে ধর্ণা দেন। তারা স্লোগানের মাধ্যমে চা বাগান ও পাট শিল্পে নিযুক্ত কর্মীদের দুর্দশার কথা তুলে ধরেন।
