Mamata Banerjee remembers Mujibur Rahman’s contribution in Bangladesh freedom movement
The people of Bengal will never forget the contribution of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the freedom movement of Bangladesh, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday.
She was participating in a programme held to celebrate Bijoy Dibas at Netaji Indoor stadium on Thursday evening. “People of Bengal have special love and affection for Bangladesh and the close ties between the two countries will remain forever,” Mamata Banerjee said.
She extended her best wishes to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “The two countries are politically divided but their cultural affinity has removed all the differences. Just as we cannot divide Rabindranath and Nazrul, the people of these two countries cannot be separated,” she said.
She said that every year, the martyrs were remembered on February 21 which was observed as Language Day. “One of the memorable programmes I have attended was held on February 21 in Bangladesh.”

বৃহস্পতিবার নেতাজি ইনডোর স্টেডিয়ামে বাংলাদেশ উপ–দূতাবাস আয়োজিত বিজয় দিবসের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।
বক্তব্য পেশ করতে গিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “মুক্তিযুদ্ধে বাংলাদেশের মানুষের সঙ্গে ভারতীয় সেনাবাহিনীও কাঁধে কাঁধ মিলিয়ে লড়েছে। অনেক কাজের মধ্যেও বাংলাদেশের মানুষ দিনগুলিকে ভোলেননি। ৪৫ বছর পরও তাঁরা সেই দিনগুলিকে স্মরণ করেন। আমরা এটা পারি না। বঙ্গবন্ধু শেখ মুজিবের স্বপ্ন বাংলাদেশের মানুষ এগিয়ে নিয়ে চলেছে। যাঁরা লড়াই করেন, তাঁদের মৃত্যু হয় না। আমরা তাঁদের স্মরণ করছি”।
তিনি আরও বলেন, “সীমানার কিছু গণ্ডি আছে কিন্তু মনের কোনও গণ্ডি নেই। ভালবাসা সব সীমানাকে হার মানিয়ে দেয়। বাংলা আছে বলেই বাংলাদেশের সঙ্গে ভারতের সম্পর্ক ছিল, আছে, থাকবে”।
বিজয় দিবস উপলক্ষে বাংলাদেশের প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনাকে অভিনন্দন ও শুভকামনা জানিয়ে মুখ্যমন্ত্রী বলেন, “রাজনৈতিকভাবে দুটি দেশ আলাদা হলেও তাদের সংস্কৃতি এক। ঠিক যেমন রবীন্দ্রনাথ ও নজরুলকে বিভক্ত করা যাবে না, তেমনই এই দুই দেশের জনগণকেও আলাদা করা যাবে না।”
তিনি বলেন, “প্রতিবছর ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি ভাষা দিবস পালন করা হয় উপর মনে হয়। গত বছর এই স্মরণীয় দিন টিতে আমি বাংলাদেশে উপস্থিত ছিলাম”।
