The West Bengal State Akademi of Dance Drama Music and Visual Arts Rabindra Bharati University to hold 17-day workshop on ‘Traditional Jhumur Songs of Bengal’ from March 14 to April 2, 2017
Kolkata, March 9, 2017:
The West Bengal State Akademi of Dance Drama Music and Visual Arts, Rabindra Bharati University, with financial support from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, will hold a 17-day workshop on ‘Traditional Jhumur Songs of Bengal’ at the Udayshankar Kaksha, Jorasanko Thakurbari, Kolkata from March 14 to March 30, 2017.
The workshop will be inaugurated by Prof. Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, Vice Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University, and also the Chairman of the Akademi, on March 14 at 12 noon.
The participants in the workshop will be trained by the well-known Jhumur artistes Mihirlal Singhdeo, Bijoy Karmakar, Postobala Debi, Upendranath Mahato, Durjodhan Karmakar and Kiriti Mahato.
The eminent researchers on Jhumur songs Dr. Ashis Giri and Shri Ashok Das will speak at the workshop which will be conducted by Dr. Kankana Mitra, Head of the Department of Vocal Music, Rabindra Bharati University.
