Vata Foundation won the prestigious award for go green initiatives. Organization was established to Protect the Tiger and its Jungles. Based out of a fast growing city Hyderabad, Vata Foundation also took up saving fully grown trees being displaced by developmental activities like Road widening, Flyovers etc..by trans-locating them free of cost.
Along with Translocation of fully grown trees Vata Foundation also took up Distribution of Bio-Diverse Saplings to Communities that assured the survival of these saplings. The sapling distribution is being carried out by a Mobile App “Vata Saplings” both on Android and IOS. Vata Foundation hopes to take this Mobile App across the country with the support of the Corporate Sector.
Recently Vata Foundation came across about 100 trees being felled for a flyover project and volunteered to Translocate them. It was a 4 months project to put everything in place. The location was amongst the busiest street of Hyderabad and we had just 2 days to translocate the trees. We were fortunate to find a nearby village where the Gram Panchayat volunteered to adopt these trees. So the permissions were taken up and the dates decided over the last weekend of June. It was a mammoth task completely relocating totally 92 trees in just 2 days amid heavy traffic sun and rain.
We successfully moved 92 trees in 2 days and 88 have shown new life. This is a first time such an event was ever held in any city across India and maybe the world where the citizens had come forward and trans-located trees otherwise marked for felling by the Govt.
