Uttam Kumar will continue to reside in our hearts: Mamata Banerjee
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today gave away Mahanayak Samman Awards at a ceremony held at Nazrul Mancha.
Veteran actress Shakuntala Barua was conferred ‘Mahanayika Samman’ by the CM. This is the sixth edition of the awards, which were constituted by the Chief Minister to honour the best contributors to the Bengali film industry.
July 24 is the 37th death anniversary of ‘Mahanayak’ – or ‘superstar’ – Uttam Kumar. Tributes were paid to him through a cultural function.

My heartfelt homage to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. My best wishes to his family members present here. I extend my greetings to all film artistes and technicians present here.
I believe ‘Bangla hobe Biswa Sera’. We have proved it with Kanyashree. Our films will also make Bengal the best in the world. This is my firm belief.
Uttam Kumar was always the best. He will continue to reside in our hearts.
We are proud to have been able to honoured Shakuntala Barua with ‘Mahanayika Samman’. Better late than never.
We have formed a committee for television industry as well as the film industry. Sabitri Di (Chatterjee) has been made the Chairperson of the International Kolkata Film Festival Committee. The work for film city will be completed soon. A new studio will be set up for the shooting of telefilms.
We have to attract filmmakers from outside to come to Bengal to make films. Bengal will also have to win Bollywood and Hollywood.
We organise Jatra Utsav, Sangeet Utsav, Kobita Utsav. I believe a civilisation cannot progress without artistes. Without them, life would resemble a desert. As long as artistes are there, culture and harmony will prosper.
We will register 80,000 additional folk artistes under Lok Prasar Prakalpa, taking the total number of beneficiaries to 1.8 lakh.
We feel honoured to be able to honour artistes and technicians with Mahanayak Samman awards. Keep up the good work.

আজ নজরুল মঞ্চে অনুষ্ঠিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে ‘মহানায়ক সম্মাননা’ প্রদান করেন মুখ্যমন্ত্রী মমতা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায়।
প্রবীণ অভিনেত্রী শকুন্তলা বড়ুয়া’কে ‘মহানায়িকা’ সম্মান প্রদান করা হয়। এই নিয়ে ষষ্ঠ বছর এই সম্মান প্রদান করা হল। মুখ্যমন্ত্রীর একান্ত উদ্যোগেই এই সম্মান প্রদান শুরু করা হয়।
২৪শে জুলাই ‘মহানায়ক’ উত্তম কুমারের মৃত্যুবার্ষিকী। একটি সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে তাঁর প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা জ্ঞাপন করা হয়।

মহানায়ক উত্তমকুমারকে আমার শদ্ধার্ঘ্য। তাঁর পরিবারের সকল সদস্য যারা আজ এখানে উপস্থিত হয়েছেন তাদের আমার শুভেচ্ছা। সব চলচ্চিত্র শিল্পী ও কলা-কুশলীদের আমার শুভেচ্ছা।
আমি বিশ্বাস করি বাংলা হবে বিশ্ব সেরা। কন্যাশ্রী দিয়ে আমরা প্রমাণ করেছি। আগামী দিন আমরা চলচ্চিত্র দিয়ে প্রমাণ করব – এটা আমার স্বপ্ন, আমার বিশ্বাস।
উত্তম কুমার সবার ওপরে ছিলেন। তিনি সবসময় আমাদের মনের মণিকোঠায় থাকবেন।
শকুন্তলা বড়ুয়াকে আজ আমরা মহানায়িকা সম্মানে সম্মানিত করতে পেরে গর্বিত।
টেলিভিশন আক্যাডেমির জন্য আমরা একটা কমিটি গঠন করেছি। আন্তর্জাতিক কলকাতা চলচ্চিত্র উৎসবের চেয়ারপার্সন হয়েছেন সাবিত্রী চট্টোপাধ্যায়। ফিল্ম সিটির কাজ খুব শীঘ্রই সম্পন্ন হবে। টেলিফিল্ম শুটিং এর জন্য আমরা একটি নতুন স্টুডিও তৈরি করা হবে।
বাংলার চলচ্চিত্রের প্রতিভা বিশ্বজুড়ে বন্দিত। বাংলার বাইরে সকলকে এখানে সিনেমা করার জন্য আকৃষ্ট করতে হবে। বাংলাকেও বলিউড, হলিউড জয় করতে হবে।
আমরা যাত্রা উৎসব করি, সঙ্গীত উৎসব করি, কবিতা উৎসব করি। আমি বিশ্বাস করি শিল্পীরা না থাকলে শিল্প কখনো গড়ে ওঠে না। শিল্পীরা না থাকলে মানুষের জীবন মরুভুমি হয়ে যেত। শিল্পীরাই সজীবতার প্রাণ, তারাই প্রাণ সঞ্চয় করে, তারাই আমাদের স্পন্দন।
লোক প্রসার প্রকল্পের আওতায় ৮০ হাজার শিল্পীর নাম নথিভুক্ত আছে, আরও ১ লক্ষকে সংযুক্ত করা হবে। মোট সংখ্যা হবে ১ লক্ষ ৮০ হাজার।
মহানায়ক সম্মান অনুষ্ঠান আমরা এই সব শিল্পীদের দিয়ে করাই। ভালো কাজ করুন, এগিয়ে যান। এগিয়ে যাওয়ার নামই জীবন।
