Work for floating market at Patuli going on in full swing
Kolkata Municipal Development Authority (KMDA) is setting up floating markets in Patuli, near Garia, in an area beside the EM Bypass (KMC Ward 110). According to KMDA officials, most of the work is complete and the market would open soon.
This would be the first such market in Bengal. Places like Srinagar (Dal Lake) and Bangkok in Thailand are famous for floating markets, that is, vegetable stalls on boats.
According to the official, 114 boats would float on the water body, selling all types of fresh vegetables. Of the 114, 32 boats have already been bought; the rest are going to be bought by November. Each boat would house two shops.
The idea is to rehabilitate the sellers of the Baishnabghata-Patuli market on the EM Bypass to the floating market so that the portion of EM Bypass can be properly widened. KMDA is also planning to build a foot overbridge across the highway where the floating market would be located.
