Kolkata and Bengal identified by few signature items and persons and their very own like Rabindranath Tagore,Netaji Subash,Victoria Memorial,Howrah Bridge and Rosogolla. Now Begal’s identity of Rosogolla was at stake as Odisha claimed the invention and originality of Rosogolla with them as well and it went to for as legal battle too.

Odisha government formed a panel to formally lay claims on ‘Rosogolla’ with GI authorities but the GI announcement came months after the formation of the panel. Rosogolla which has traditionally been identified with anything Bengali. An icon of Bengali and Indian sweets.

Bitter legal battle over the origin of the king of sweets Rosogolla between West Bengal and Odisha since June 2015.

Assistant Registrar of Trade Marks and GI, Chinnaraja G Naidu said, “Yes, today Bengal got the GI patent for Rosogolla. After a thorough study, we found that the juicy sweet ‘Rosogolla’ indeed originated from Bengal and not Odisha.”

Historically people says it belongs to Mr.Nabin Chandra Das (K.C. Das Family’s famous founder)

State food processing Minister Abdur Rezzak Mollah welcomed GI announcement and said, “It was not merely a battle over Rosogolla, but a battle of pride and identity for Bengalis.”
