Banarasi carpet mega cluster in Uttar Dinajpur district

The Bengal Government has decided to set up a mega cluster for Banarasi carpet weavers at Malgaon village in Kaliaganj block in Uttar Dinajpur district. The State Government’s Directorate of Textiles is setting up the mega cluster.
These hand-woven carpets are being made there since the middle of the 1980s. So much so, that the village has earned the nickname, ‘Carpet Gram’ (meaning ‘carpet village).
Besides weaving woolen carpets, the facility will have arrangements for training of workers, designing of carpets and marketing of the products. As of now, around 300 women weave carpets on the village.
