Jatra is an essential part of our culture: Bengal CM

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today inaugurated the 22nd Jatra Utsav at Barasat Kachari Maidan. Department of Information & Culture, Govt of West Bengal and Paschimbanga Jatra Akademi are jointly organising the festival.
The 32-day festival will be be held at multiple venues. Till tomorrow, shows will be held at Barasat. From March 3 till April 1, the venue will be shifted to Baghbazar Phanibhushan Jatra Mancha.
Highlights of the Chief Minister’s speech:
We organise the inaugural ceremony of Jatra Utsav every year at Barasat. This has become an integral part of our annual festival calendar.
We are honoured to have been able to felicitate the Jatra Samrat and Jatra Samragyi.
Jatra was an essential medium of entertainment in our childhood, specially in rural areas.
Despite so many media of communication – TV, film, music – Jatra still is popular among people.
Jatra is an essential part of our culture. There is no match for Jatra.
