Where ever you go if you found Bengali you rest be assured some way or the other Durga Puja will be organized. Now Bangalore has become almost a second home city for Bengalis. Hence no wonder one of the best destination for Durga Puja after Kolkata is now Bangalore.

Keeping the euphoria around the Durga Puja Maitree Bandhaan organized Senco Sharod Samman Award 2018 in Bangalore on 19th October, 2018 in Kalyani Ulsoor Lake. More than 60 Bengalee Associations across Bangalore registered for this award. Senco Sharod Samman Award was given mainly in 4 categories, Best Puja, Best Theme and Pandal, Best Idol and Best Crowd Management. This year there was one more special category introduced, CLEAN & GREEN PUJA which is a Judge’s Choice Award. This special category is created to inspire associations to keep pandal premise clean and green which is also a BBMP initiative in Bangalore. To bring more transparency in voting system for this award, Maitree Bandhaan launched a mobile application through which public can vote their favourite puja.

Apart from that, Maitree Bandhaan also obtained public feedback during Puja Parikrama which was organized from 16th October to 18th October. Sharod Samman judges Shri Ranjon Ghoshal, an eminent personality of Bengal and Bangalore from music, literature and theater, Shri Soumya Shankar Roy, renowned percussionist, RJ Sayaan from 93.5FM and Ms. Shinie Antony, eminent author reviewed top 15 puja associations based on Public voting in Mobile app and feedback provided by public during puja parikrama (Pandal Hopping) and provided their ratings.

Senco Sharod Samman 2018 program started with live musical jamming of Dr. Aneesh Vidyashankar’s violin play and Shri Soumya Shankar Roy’s tabla, first in kind in Bangalore in an open stage. Vande Mataram played by Dr. Aneesh added a new flavor to this event.

More than 5000 people voted through mobile app and more than 200 people from Puja Parikrama gave their feedback on various durga pujas. Based on public voting in mobile app, total number of votes Public review and judges rating, BARSHA Bengali Association of HSR Layout won the Best Puja Award for 2018. This year, apart from the traditional way of celebrating durga puja, BARSHA Bengali Association also focused on waste management and made the entire venue a plastic free zone. More than 50 security personels including volunteers were deployed to maintain the crowd. The total footfall was more than 1 lac. It’s the only durga puja which happened in one of the largest ground in Bangalore with more than 40 stalls. This is the only Puja in Bangalore where Public and Judges gave the highest scores in all the parameters.

Jayamahal Sarbajanin Durga Charitable Samiti won the Best Theme Award for 2018. Jayamahal Sarbajanin Durga Charitable Samiti is the oldest Bengalee association in Bangalore and like every year, this year their theme was UFO. Artists from Calcutta Art College spent many days here to give the final shape. Special effects used in this theme made it real and attractive. R.T. Nagar Sarbojanin Durga Pujo Samiti won the 2nd prize in Best Theme Award for 2018 for making the replica of Belur Halebedu. The cultural integration of Bengal and Karnataka are well portrayed here. Jagriti Bongio Cultural Association of KR Puram won the 3rd prize in Best Theme Award this year. Their theme was Right to Education. Entire Pandal was decorated with more than 150 hand printed sarees and traditional red coloured cotton towels brought from Kolkata. Members of the association spent more than 3 months painting in these sarees depicting various stories of famous Bengali book called SAHAJPAT.

Electronic City Cultural Association won the Best Idol Award 2018. Their idol is the biggest Durga Idol in Bangalore this year, marking a height of 17 feet. East Bangalore Cultural Association of Whitefield won the 2nd Best Idol Award receiving 2nd highest voting from public via mobile application and from public feedback. Srishti Cultural Association of Begur Road won the 3rd Best Idol Award.

Sarathi Social cultural Trust of Koramangala won the Best Crowd Management Award 2018. The total footfall was more 3, 00,000 people and more than 80 volunteers were deployed along with local police and traffic management for smooth traffic movement and crowd management. Whitefield Cultural Association (WCA) won the 2nd prize in Best Crowd Management Award. The total footfall was more than 2, 00,000 and more than 75 volunteers deployed for the crowd management. Assam Association Bangalore Durga Puja won the 3rd prize in Best Crowd Management.

Maitree Bandhaan also felicitated Mr. Bhaskar, Traffic Constable, CV Raman Nagar Area, Mr. Syed Rafiq, Senior Constable, R T Nagar Limits, Mr. Devraj C, Head Constable, Kadugodi, Mahadevapura Limit for their social support beyond their regular duty and Mrs Manikya Chillur Social activist of Karnataka for her immense contribution on farmers right.

Shri Rupak Kumar Dutta,Ex DG and IGP of Karnataka was the Chief Guest and Eminent personalities like Shri Sankar Sen, Chairman and Managing Director of Senco Golds and Diamonds, Shri Ranjon Ghoshal, eminent personality of Bengal and Bangalore from music, literature and theater across the world, Shri Soumya Shankar Roy, most talented and renowned Percussionist and musician from Kolkata, Dr. Aneesh Vidyasankar, popularly known as the wireless walking violinist, Ms Shinie Anthony , an award winning author and editor and Shri Sampath Kumar, CEO of Nandavaana Housing along with RJ Tuhin and RJ Sayan from 93.5 RED FM were the guests of honour for the evening.

More than 100 volunteers of Maitree Bandhaan worked with Bangalore Traffic Police to ensure smooth traffic and safe immersion in ulsoor lake. Ladoos, water and juices been distributed to all visitors throughout the day.
