
Amway India hosts H.E. Ms. Patti Hoffman, US Consul General; launches ‘Taking Wings: Chronicling the journey of Indian Women Entrepreneurs’
The compendium features the entrepreneurial journeys of Indian women
Kolkata, 4th June 2019: Amway India, the country’s largest FMCG direct selling company, today hosted H.E. Ms. Patti Hoffman, US Consul General in its office in Kolkata. On the occasion and keeping up with the commitment to promote entrepreneurship in the country, Amway presented the women compendium ‘Taking Wings: Chronicling the journey of Indian Women Entrepreneurs’. The compendium was launched by Ms. Hoffman along with Mr. Chandra Chakraborty,Vice President – East, Amway India and women Amway direct sellers.
The compendium is a riveting compilation of journeys of Indian women entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds that recognizes micro-entrepreneurship through a range of articles and interviews with prominent thought leaders in this space. It also highlights the challenges that deter women from self-reliant entrepreneurship, identifies the opportunities that make women take the plunge, and offers significant insights for policy and decision making at a macro level to tap the entrepreneurial potential of women in the country.
The occasion also witnessed a mesmerising cultural performance by the children of Mukti Rehabilitation Centre. Ms. Hoffman presented special gifts to all the participants and also presented a cheque of INR 50,000/- to the NGO on behalf of Amway India.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Chandra Chakraborty, Vice President – East, Amway India, said, “We are honored to host H.E. Ms. Hoffman today and share our work towards promoting entrepreneurship and CSR in the country. We, at Amway India, are proud to have successfully skilled and empowered more than 550,000 direct sellers in India. The fact that almost 60% of Amway direct sellers are women is a testimony to our commitment and contribution towards women entrepreneurship. In the East region, too, we have a significant contribution of women in our business and we are confident to further strengthen it.”
Ms. Hoffman appreciated the constant endeavor of Amway and the company’s focus on promoting entrepreneurship in India. Commenting on the launch of the compendium, she said, “In recent years, India has witnessed a paradigm shift in the corporate as well as entrepreneurial landscape, as more and more women are following their passion. I am thrilled to witness Amway’s commitment to foster an environment of growth and create viable opportunities for micro-entrepreneurs. Women forming more than half of Amway’s direct sellers in India is a testament to the company’s effort to empower them and help them achieve their full potential.”
Ms. Hoffman has taken over as US consul general in the Kolkata consular district and is working to advance the US-Indian partnership at all levels.
