JD Institute of Fashion Technology students showcase their creations

Kolkata, September 24, 2019: JD Institute of Fashion Technology, a pioneer in the field of design education for the past 30 years, showcased a collection curated by its students at a fashion gala held at Roseate House, Aerocity, recently. Well-known designer Rina Dhaka, who is associated with JD Institute as a mentor to the students, also displayed her latest line of Indian wear, featuring floral details.

Under the banner “House of Jediians”, 19 students of the institute displayed costumes designed by them, with interesting concepts ranging from unconventional mythology to pressing contemporary issues. One collection was inspired by the delicate, asymmetrical balance of Empty Spaces conceived from Ikebana. The other concept was on beauty-in-destruction; yet another embraced, greener materials by switching leather for cork. The concept of abstract interpretations such as enlightenment, being-ness or the ancient theory of Panchatatva was a predominant theme throughout the entire line of creations.

Ms Rupal Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology, said, “The collection by House of Jediians incorporated ideas ranging from mythology to pressing contemporary issues. With 30 years of legacy in the education industry, we have always aimed not only to nourish trendsetters and icons within the fashion and design industry but also upcoming budding designers. We are truly proud of the vibrant and unique interpretations that were showcased by our students.”
