Kolkata, October 21, 2019: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, one of India’s most revered icons has been under the light of glory and controversy with all political parties reflecting his enigmatic role in Indian Independence Movement. One of the greatest leaders of all time has been portrayed as a ‘superhero’ of our country, yet his mysterious disappearance is still one of the biggest unsolved international cases till date. A seminar was hosted today on the 75 years completion of Azad Hind Government addressing the achievements and accomplishment of the Government and also the future measures to solve Netaji mystery and misrepresentation of facts in film’s based on Netaji’s Life.  Ms Chitra Ghosh, Niece of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr Purabi Roy, Retired Proffessor of International Affairs, Jadavpur University and renowned Netaji Researcher, Mr Joydeep Mukherjee, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India & Mr Indranil Bhattacharya, Social Activist was present to address the seminar.

Azad Hind Government was founded in Singapore on October 21, 1943. It was India’s first independent government established by Indian nationalists-in-exile during latter part of World War II in Singapore with monetary, military and political assistance from Imperial Japan. The government was a part of political freedom movement originating in 1940s outside India with purpose of allying with Axis powers during Second World War to free India from British Rule. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was leader of Azad Hind Government and also Head of State of this Government-in-exile. The government was recognized by countries such as Germany, Japan, Philippines, Korea, China, Italy and Ireland. The government had its own currency, court and civil code.

The government also had its armed force Indian National Army or the Azad Hind Fauz whose purpose was to free India from British rule. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was the supreme commander of the army and Rashbehari Bose played important role in its establishment. The government captured Andaman and Nicobar Island and renamed it Shaheed Island (Andaman) and Swaraj Island (Nicobar). The army also later captured Mairang and Kohima. Azad Hind Government played a crucial role in bequeathing a much needed impetus to India’s struggle for independence.

“Azad Hind Government provided the much needed impetus to the Indian Freedom Struggle. The activities of INA made the very foundation of the British Empire weak and made them realise that there rule in India is near end. Azad Hind Fauz was the driving force behind the Indian freedom struggle. On the completion of its 75 years of governance, we would salute them for the invaluable contribution towards our Independence movement”, said Mr Indranil Bhattacharya, Social Activist.

“The existence of the Azad Hind Government gave a greater legitimacy to the independence struggle against the British. Our objective is to declassify all the documents related to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the Azad Hind Government so that the people can know about their invaluable contribution towards our independence movement”, said Mr Joydeep Mukherjee, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of India

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose gave a famous slogan Delhi Chalo (Come to Delhi) after formation of this government. Azad Hind Fauj along with this slogan reached India on March 21, 1944. Ram Singh Thakuri composed the inspirational song “Qadam Aadam Badhaye Ja” of Azad Hind Fauj.
