Mamallapuram, also known as Mahabalipuram, as a town in Chengalpattu district in the southeastern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Mahabalipuram was one of the two major port cities during the 7th century under the Pallava dynasty. It is popular for its beautiful monumental architecture engraved with historical stone carvings.
