Honour Tri-colour on R-Day: PPFA
Guwahati: With India approaching the 71st Republic Day on 26 January, the Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA) has appealed to the people of Northeast India to pay tributes to the martyrs of freedom struggle by hoisting the national flag in every nook and corner of the region.
The forum of nationalists, based in Assam, appealed in a statement that considering the rising awareness among many people about keeping the values of the Constitution intact even as others are demanding various benefits under the Constitution, it would be appropriate at
this crucial juncture to pay respects to the Tri-colour.
India achieved freedom from British colonial rule on 15 august 1947 and adopted her Constitution on 26 January 1950.
“Prior to independence, our nationalists and freedom fighters symbolically set 26 January as our Independence Day and carried on the movement. It is the moral responsibility of every Indian national to hoist the national flag on both R-Day and Independence Day so as to pay homage to the martyrs for their immense sufferings and sacrifices,” said a PPFA statement.
Among the great patriots, the likes of Kanaklata Barua, Mukunda Kakoti, Kushal Konwar, Tilak Deka, Bhogeswari Phukanani, Nidhanu Rajbangshi, Kamala Miri, Lerela Boro, Madan Rauta, Hemoram Patar, Gunabhi Bordoloi, Dayal Panika and others made Assam proud by laying down their lives while keeping the Tri-colour flying high, reminded the PPFA statement.
“There can be no rights without corresponding duties. Lest we forget, the very first of the eleven fundamental duties enshrined in our Constitution calls upon all Indian citizens to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the national flag and the national anthem,” said the PPFA.
The forum comprising individuals from different fields of activity asserted that the national flag does not belong to any government or political parties alone, rather it is a priceless asset of every Indian who feels proud of his or her identity as citizen of a great nation.
