RPF, ER SEIZES SILVER ORNAMENTS WEIGHING 41 KG WORTH Rs. 27, 24,000 AT HOWRAH STATION

Alerts were sounded across major Railway stations that the racketeers may be more active in near future for transaction/transportation of unaccounted cash, diamond, gold & silver ornaments, and contraband items.
Acting on a tip, officers & staff of Railway Protection Force (RPF), Eastern Railway (ER), Howrah on Friday, March 5, 2021 intercepted three suspects while they were to board 02333 UP Howrah- Prayagraj Rambag Special for Patna. The crime prevention & detection squad, ER, Howrah detained them on suspicion and escorted them to RPF Post, Howrah North.
On interrogation, they disclosed their identity. During a search of their luggage bags, silver ornaments weighing 41KG 640 GM valued Rs. 27, 24,000 (approx.) were found in their possession. They failed to give any satisfactory reply regarding the huge quantity of silver ornaments raising suspicion.
State GST officials, Kolkata were informed and called upon. After proper documentation & verification, the seized ornaments with suspects were handed over to them for further investigation into the matter.
ER RPF, apart from providing security to Railway Properties and Passengers, is also assisting various state and Central government authorities in unearthing corruption and illegal activities and ensuring as well that Railway station should not be a safe passage for such activities.
