SER LAUNCHES INTENSIVE DRIVE TO COMBAT FIRE HAZARD

By PIB Kolkata

Kolkata, March 30, 2021.

An intensive awareness drive has been launched all over Indian Railways about precautionary measures to be adopted in case of fire incidents in trains or at railway premises. SER has also taken initiatives to educate all the stakeholders i.e. rail users and railway/non-railway employees working at stations and in trains about precautions to take against fire incidents like enforcing “No Smoking”, preventing “Carriage of Inflammable Materials” through rail, etc.

As a part of this awareness drive, a preparedness meeting chaired by Shri Anupam Sharma, Additional General Manager, SER was held at the Headquarters today (30-3-2021). Senior Officers and other employees attended the meeting to discuss the adoptive measures and improvement of alertness in case of sudden fire incidents.

In this regard, major focus is given on No Smoking in trains and station premises and against carriage of inflammable articles through rail. SER is conducting awareness campaigns among the employees and passengers with live demonstrations and distribution of leaflets. Mock fire-drills are also organised at different places over SER’s jurisdictions to assess the preparedness of the employees. Along with Social Media campaigning, announcements are also being made through PA systems and mass media. Video and print advertisements on fire-safety theme are also published to spread awareness. SER has also initiated regular checks by RPF personnel in trains and at stations against smoking and carriage of inflammable and explosive materials. Seminar on fire safety and joint mock drills with Fire Service Department are also being conducted.
