First Export Rake with Reefer Containers arrived at Kolkata Dock System of SMP

First export rake from Siliguri’s Dabgram ICD with reefer containers reached Kolkata Dock System on May 29th, 2021. This direct rail connectivity opens up direct access of SMP, Kolkata to North Bengal and North Eastern India. This is the first train operated by a private container train operator and has brought 28 TEUs of deep frozen reefer cargo weighing over 500 Tonnes.
SMP, Kolkata has exclusive partnerships with Pristine Mega Logistics to handle ICD Siliguri cargo and has provided special discounts in charges and incentives to promote this line of trade.
A MoU to this effect was signed on February 26th, 2021 on the backdrop of Maritime India Summit 2021 under the Union Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways.
Shri Vinit Kumar, Chairman, SMP, Kolkata emphasized that with this significant arrival of First Export Rake at Kolkata Dock System, SMP, Kolkata expects 12 to 15 trains of Reefer Containers every month. For this unique achievement, Shri Kumar thanked trade partners, officers and staff of KDS for their excellent support and hard work put in this endeavour despite the devastating impact of COVID-19 and cyclonic storm.
