Mr. Debasish Sen is one of the finest administrator, well articulated and culturally enlightened mind of Bengal, who shaped the Rajarhat New Town area of Kolkata in to a smart city yet aesthetically far better than any city in any other part of West Bengal.
Some times sweet encounter happens with every walks of life with Art. Same has happned with Mr Sen as well.
A FB Post that narrerts the story in his own word as below:
“Yesterday, I saw Mr.Sayan Mukherjee at work at pedestrian subway connecting Rabindra Tirtha with Smart Plaza on the opposite side of Major Arterial Road of New Town. Sayan is the artist who created Google Doodle of Independence Day 2021 (see pic below). I listened from him how Google selected his work.
I said I was happy that he was drawing the mural on the long wall of the subway and asked if could we have the Google Doodle too on the subway walls too. This was not possible, he said, because of Intellectual Property Rights issue, but he promised to do something similar later.
The present wall art is based on Old and New Kolkata and will give a wonderful feeling to the person walking along the corridor. We expect to open the subway by the end of next week.”
Encouragement from the leaders and authorities an enormous boost for the artist at work. We will wait for the work to finish. Only expectation from fellow citizen not to decorate the walls with colorful spittoons like other places.
