Food Corporation of India (FCI), Zonal Office (East) organized a programme by decorating a tram on board to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav here in Kolkata today. The programme was organized to commemorate India’s 75th Independence. The tram travelled from Ballygunge tram depot to Esplanade tram depot.
The tram was decorated with displays depicting the working of the Corporation and the different welfare programmes orchestrated by FCI. There was also a special segment on the unsung heroes of India’s struggle for Independence.
The event was attended by the Executive Director (East), FCI, Sri Ajit K. Sinha, and several top officers of FCI. The main aim of the tableau was to sensitize the public of the city about the role that FCI, the Government of India’s food grain handling agency, plays in implementation of the regular food welfare programmes of the Union Government and especially the PMGKAY scheme which has ensured that no one in the country goes unfed even during the strict lockdown situation.
