The CSIR-CMERI developed Solar DC Cooking System is a Solar Energy based Cooking System which consists of solar PV panel, charge controller, battery bank and cooking oven. The technology provides a Clean Cooking Environment, Invertor-Less Direct Operation, Fast and Uniform Heating and effective handling of Voltage Fluctuations.

Prof. M.S. Unnikrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, IIT-Bombay Monash Research Academy, Mumbai & Former MD & CEO, Thermax Ltd, while interacting with the members of the Press shared that CSIR-CMERI has been steadily leaning towards developing a Science-Leveraged Ecology and Society. The tremendous accomplishments of CSIR-CMERI in the recent years have been making an impact in the country and the same is also reflected in the premises of CSIR-CMERI which houses the Prototype of these Technologies. Today when there is a huge demand for pollution causing LPG, it is very important that Sustainable Alternatives are explored for the future. The CSIR-CMERI developed Solar DC Cooking System is a perfect specimen of a Clean and Green Alternative. The Solar DC Cooking System once channelized to the Market can be a Big Technology Breakthrough for the Nation. India depends heavily on LPG Imports and such a Renewable Option can alter India’s Energy Needs.

Prof. Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI, shared that besides the huge Import Bills for LPG, it may be a source of Indoor Pollution. The CSIR-CMERI developed Solar DC Cooking System is a novel and path-breaking alternative to LPG. The performance of the System is better compared to LPG based Conventional Cooking Systems. CSIR-CMERI is working towards upgrading the aesthetics and ergonomics of the Technology. The technology is available in both domestic as well as Community scale. The Coil Design for the System has been developed to effectively tackle Voltage Fluctuations. The design of the Technology is simple to facilitate Ease-of-Manufacturing, however CSIR-CMERI has worked upon Innovative Integration of these Sub-Systems. The technology has already been transferred to two Enterprises and further dissemination of the Technology to the market will help improve the general acceptance of the same in the Society. The popularizing of the Technology may also help India achieve its ambitious Solar Energy target of 150 Giga Watt. This technology may give a boost to the Job Scenario by improving the prospects of the Micro-Scale Manufacturing Enterprises and consequently improving the Job-Scenario.

The CSIR-CMERI developed Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Technologies, Waste Water Filtration Plant for Agriculture/Pisciculture, World’s Largest Solar Tree, Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Metrology Group, Aero-Systems Laboratory, Water testing Laboratory, Mechanized Scavenging System, Farm Machinery Training and Testing Centre and Sustainable Kitchen were also demonstrated to the distinguished guests.

Dr. G.M. Helauddin, Principal, Michael Madhusudan College, Durgapur, shared that this MoU between the two Institution will tremendously help in benefitting the young minds of the M.M. College as they would get access to the State-of-the-Art Technology Infrastructure and learn about the latest advancements in Science & Technology.
