An earthquake shook the Indo-Myanmar border on Friday morning. According to the country’s National Geological Survey, the quake had a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale.
The quake shook Kolkata, including North Bengal. The tremor was felt in Kolkata around 5:15 am on Friday. The duration of the vibration was 30 seconds. The epicenter was reported 63 km southeast of Mizoram at a depth of 12 km, according to the Central Meteorological Department. 164 km east of Chittagong, Bangladesh. The tremors were also felt in Assam, Tripura and neighboring Bangladesh.
However, the exact tectonic plate behind the tremors was not immediately known. No major damage was reported.
