NAVY WEEK 2021 – COMMUNITY INTERACTION PROGRAMME AND MEDICAL CAMP AT DIGHA (EAST MEDINIPUR), WEST BENGAL
As part of Navy Week Celebrations, INS Netaji Subhas conducted a Community Interaction Programme (CIP) as well as a Medical Camp at a fishing village Digha, East Medinipur, West Bengal about 200 kms from Kolkata, on 30 Nov 21.
The IN Team conducted Coastal Security Awareness Programme for the local Fishermen Community in the presence of the functionaries of Digha Fishermen and Fish Traders Association, namely Shri Pranab Kumar Kar, Chairman and Shri Shamsundar Das, Secretary. Interactive lectures on Coastal Security and Safety at Sea highlighted the vital role of the Fishing Community as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Navy were emphasized. The Medical Camp included OPD Consultation for medical, surgical, pediatric, skin and cardiac ailments as well as medicines and COVID-19 related Personal Protection items were distributed. Lectures on COVID Precautions and CPR demonstrations were also conducted.
The CIP and Medical Camp received high attendance from a wide segment of the local populace. More than 400 villagers benefited from the Medical Camp. Both Community activities undertaken by the Navy earned the trust of the fishing community who expressed unparalleled gratefulness. The event further strengthened the existing bonds of relationship with the local administration and served as an invaluable connect with the citizens of West Bengal.
