INAUGURATION OF EVENT

On 12 Dec 2021, the Nation set out to celebrate fervor of nationalism, the spirit of democracy, and undaunting grit, courage, and resolve of Indian Armed Forces displayed during the 1971 Indo Pak war, through Vijay Parv celebrations at India Gate Lawns, New Delhi. Vijay Parv is a landmark event to commemorate the decisive military victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 war, resulting in the liberation of Bangladesh from East Pakistan and the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani troops.

‘Vijay Parv’ was unveiled to the public by Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri to commemorate India’s glorious victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The ceremony included video messages by Shri Mozammel Haque, Bangladesh Minister for Liberation War Affairs, Mukti Jodha’s, and the Service Chiefs. Shri Rajnath Singh, Hon’ble Raksha Mantri delivered his keynote address, highlighting the success of the 1971 war due to dedicated and meticulous planning, resolute leadership, and bold execution by the Indian Armed Forces. The event included the unveiling of the Wall of Fame and drive through the vintage memorabilia and captured war trophies of the 1971 War.

13 Day War theme is being presented in two grand battle exhibitions depicting major operations of the Eastern Front and Western Front. The exhibition will showcase short audiovisual films covering the events as they occurred between 03rd – 05th December, 06th – 10th December, and 12th – 16th December in 1971. Four of the most spectacular operations will be reconstructed as battle exhibitions displaying dioramas & models of Pt -76 tanks mounted with cannons capturing Pakistani positions. The 1971 War bore witness to undaunted valor of the Indian Armed Forces, wherein many awards were bestowed to include Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra amongst a host of other Gallantry awards. The name of the award winners is etched on ‘Wall of Fame’ inaugurated today by Hon’ble RM for times immemorial. The ceremony will be an enduring source of inspiration for the country men and will surely infuse feelings of nationalism, patriotism, and pride for the nation.

The 1971 operations were conducted under the leadership of Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, Admiral Nanda and Air Chief Marshal PC Lal as Service Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force with their remarkable jointness and splendid performance demonstrated by all echelons. Vijay Diwas, 16 Dec 1971 is taken as a glorious day in Nation’s history wherein the surrender document was signed at Ramana Race Course at Dhaka to bring in 93,000 Pakistani troops to lay down their arms to Indian Armed Forces, this being the largest surrender in world history after World War ll.
