International Mother Language Day is being celebrated in Bangladesh High Commission, Kolkata on 21st February. The day began with ‘prabhat pheri’ (morning march) as employees of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission went around the Park Circus area and it ended with the road under the flyover on AJC Bose Road.
They paid their respects to the language martyrs by laying wreaths at the Shaheed Minar. Deputy High Commissioner Toufique Hasan, First Secretary (Press) Ranjan Sen and other officials of the mission also attended this programme.
In 1999, UNESCO declared February 21 as International Mother Language Day, a day intended to promote free language choice everywhere in the world.
