‘In a democracy, people get the government they deserve and they deserve what they get.’ ~ Joseph de Maistre
What do you think about this fellow countrymen?
NOTA is not available in the Municipal Election of West Bengal. While we asked the same the in-charge in the booth, they said “ask ECWB and ECI we do not know why”.
Is it not my right to reject any or all of the candidates if they do not fit into my choice, yet, I want to exercise my democratic right in West Bengal or anywhere in India?
“Dance of the Devil in the name of democracy has become a lumpen culture in all colors available as an option to vote.” said an ex-teacher of international repute.
“They have forced us to elect candidates not even an honest one but known criminal. Is this what we have to expect from the largest democracy in the world?”, said a doctor.
“When entire educated and peace-loving citizens are condemning the slow poison of democracy by all colors and all ideologies. Why this comedy is taking place every year? Political parties and their backed criminals looted our genuine rights to live a healthy life.”~ 1ast year graduation student.
These are the few glimpses of the feelings of the electorates of India.
Supreme Court Judgement on NOTA
A writ petition was filed by the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL). The Supreme Court of India judgment said, “We direct the Election Commission to provide necessary provision in the ballot papers/EVMs and another button called “None of the Above” (NOTA) may be provided in EVMs so that the voters, who come to the polling booth and decide not to vote for any of the candidates in the fray, are able to exercise their right not to vote while maintaining their right of secrecy.”
The Supreme Court also observed that it is essential that people of high moral and ethical values are chosen as people’s representatives for proper governance of the country, and the NOTA button can compel political parties to nominate a sound candidate.
Election Commission Views
Section 79 (d) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, recognizes “electoral right” to also include the right to “refrain from voting at an election”.
‘The Representation of People Act’ is applicable to “…either House of Parliament or in the House or either House of the Legislature of a State” Recognition of “electoral right” as also the right to “refrain from voting at an election” is not made in the acts pertaining to elections to panchayats in Kerala.
This is a loophole in the constitution kept deliberately to violate the fundamental rights of Indians and keep a dent in Indian democracy. How come the election process in one single democracy is different in one nation for a different segment of electoral politics?
“The Election Commission of India must think are they truly Election Commission or Political Commission to keep the political master’s wishlist intact. This is not the country for which Netaji Subhash and we fought together against the imperial British. You people have killed our sacrifice in the name of faulty democracy and dance of the Devils in the election. Sometimes I strongly believe the British have left the DNA in our political masters of today to rule and thrash democracy.” Long back in Dec 2002, my maternal grandfather, a reputed freedom fighter, said to me. I protested then and sworn in the name of the constitution and TN Sesan’s Voter ID Card. He smiled and replied, “EPIC Card will become the main instrument to rob the people’s vote. Even deads will vote with the card.”
How big a visionary he was. Each and every word is true now. In my childhood we used to see, the Doctors, barristers, scientists or professors as candidates but nowadays “MOSTLY People with stinted background with little knowledge and education becomes our representatives to rob us in broad daylight.”, said an Ex MNC Big Boss and grandson of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s close mate in INA.
It is not the ECI nor Supreme Court or the Politicians who destroyed our freedom of choice and right to select the right people. It is the people of India who gave priority to short-term benefit over the country’s future and society encouraged by patting the back of the criminals as “Maasiha of the People”. We have imported none of the public office bearers (Well except a few famous faces in a famous family. Maybe an isolated example of overseas leaders in Indian Politics), but they belong to this society, hence we have to own the responsibility of this Frankenstein and rectify right away no time left to think and before the evil becomes a decisive force in the society. Do not believe any color find the right men or women to rule and then form a unified color of these few good men standing last to uphold your rights in the war of freedom and dignity. Is there any braveheart reading this loud and clear?
Lord Krishna, in the Mahabharata (including the Bhagavad Gita), first advises that if someone cheats or unjustly treats or wrongs, then
first one should try to tolerate and try to rectify others wrong actions by making them understand the inappropriate nature of their actions and their subsequent results.
Or in Bible AS IT SAYS Proverbs 17:13 The Message (MSG) Those who return evil for good will meet their own evil returning.
Or in Gurubani ਦੂਤ ਲਗੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥
dhoot lage fir chaakaree satigur kaa vesaahu ||
The evil energies have been made to serve me, since I placed my faith in the True Guru.
Not ready to do your duty to uphold mother India and her dreams. “Oh Lovely”, I found the right audience to enjoy.
So Enjoy the Holiday as election day and start sipping your favorite drink and enjoy an old classic favorite movie with a long pause in development in waiting for your future. Long Live Democracy, Long Live our freedom fighters’ sacrifices. Jai Hind.
