(District-Murshidabad)
The incident took place on March 5, 2022 in the Border Out Post Meghna, 141 Battalion area. Around 1730 pm, one jawan on duty noticed some suspicious movement of 15-20 smugglers with sharp weapons on both sides of the International Boundary in his area. A Group of smugglers had entered approximately 1100 meters inside Indian territory.

The smugglers who came with the intention of carrying forcible smuggling attacked the BSF jawan and the smugglers fired 3 rounds at the jawan with a country-made pistol but the BSF jawan managed to defend himself. Sensing the nefarious intentions of the smugglers, the jawan also tried to drive them away, but the smugglers continued their attack. To protect their lives from the attack of smugglers and to Inthe sanctity of the International Boundary, the jawan fired a round in self-defense. Consequently, one Bangladeshi smuggler was injured. The rest of the smugglers fled away, taking cover of banana plantations, dense bushes, and darkness.
Immediately the injured smuggler was taken to Karimnagar hospital in an ambulance by BSF troops after first aid where in 1930 hrs the doctors declared him brought dead.

On search of the area, 8 kg of ganja was recovered. The seized ganja has been handed over to Hoogalberia Police Station for further legal action.
BSF officials appreciated the action of their jawans towards their commitment to completely stop smuggling in the area. It has been possible to check smuggling in the area only due to their effective vigilance and surveillance. It was also added in the statement that the attack on the troops will not be tolerated at any cost.
