Organizers of the “Pandit Shankar Ghosh Foundation”, Bharathi Vidya Bhavan along with the associate Bengal Chambers of Commerce and Industries, on the initiative of Pandit Bikram Ghosh, showed what an ideal event could be to pay homage to a music guru.
Legends of the evening showed, how the next generation is ready to take the genre of classical music gurus forward, and that they are the bearers and carriers of the “Guru Sishya” tradition of India, on this first day of the First NaaD music festival.
It is understandable why Kolkata is still called the cultural capital of India. But will it remain so? Well, that question has to be left to today’s parents, “If you want to get a good artist, you need a good audience, too. Hence grow your kids with the right cultural alignment to carry the legacy of the cultural capital of India.”
The first day was the best arrangement of instrumental music. Veena, Chaturanga, Tabla, Mridanga, and Flute with world-class presentation and Bandish. It was difficult to understand that how three hours have passed just like that with the heavenly touch of melody, rhythm, and act.
Who are they, who presented on the first day?
Pandit Debashish Bhattacharya in Chaturanga, scholar Rajhesh Vaidhya in harp, Vidyan S. Sekhar in Mridangam were in North-South duet along with the legend Pandit Anindya Chatterjee on tabla. Jhala, duet or bol bani, Kalakari each aspect was pure gold, falls just around the ears of the crowd like sweetest experience ever.
Pandit Vikram Ghosh himself then rushed to Rabindra Sadan for another function. But the crowd had enjoyed the touch of inspiration of Bikram Ghosh, who was the soul of the event at Birla Sabhagriha today.
A brief pause after this remarkable duet by four masters to accommodate the next team for the show was taken. In that gap the conversation with an expatriate wise listener, living far away in America. Who came to Calcutta for Holi Festival said “Music and audience of Kolkata two factors which brings us back to this city but how long that aura will continue?”.
This time, Shri Rakesh Chaurasia, the worthy successor of Legend of Flute Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, came to present with his guru’s blessing and flute. He played Behag to start with, then with Pahari and Malkosh Raag. Shri Anubrata Chatterjee played the tabla to accompany him on the stage with skillful paid of hands.
The worthy scholar-disciple showed how to make the program a masterpiece, how to create a spiritual relationship between the listener and the musician, just like the legendary Guru himself. The use of honey in ears is only this music. Proverb “Like Father,Like Son” hold true to the core here. The flute of Legend Sr. Chaurasia is in worthy hands and we bow at the feet of that proverbial idol, for this great work of making a worthy legacy.
At the end of the show, the only fascinated crowd was seen everywhere and waiting for the second day to begin.
The first edition of the NaaD Music Conference appeared with a masterstroke for the music lover from Kolkata. May this auspicious initiative increase in length and bread of the spectrum for the future of Kolkata’s Musical legacy.
