A adventurous journey gets its dues
The District Governor’s Changeover Ceremony is celebrated every year on July 1 at the Rotary Club. On this occasion, the event was organized in Nikko Park this year as per the tradition. New District Governor Ajoy Kumar Laha, Shekhar Mehta, Immediate Former President, Rotary International, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Director (2023-25), Rotary International were present at the do.
Among the two most important initiatives of the day were Piyali Basak, a special felicitation to the brave Bengali girl who recently returned home after conquering Mount Everest in a state of oxygen deprivation. One of the main collaborators of Piyali’s journey was Rotary International, Rotary Chandannagar and various Rotary clubs. Shekhar Mehta handed over a memento to Piyali. The event was organized by Rotary International District 3291.
Another highlight of the event was the dance performance of the Martial Arts Group of Dumdum Correctional Home. Bihanga was served to the tune and direction of Chirantan Bhaduri. It was like the taste of liberation in the rhythm of dance. Earlier, the opening dance was performed by the artists of Shinjini Dance Academy.
At the end of the day, Piyali said, “This journey would not have been possible without the support of Rotary. As a single organisation, they have contributed the maximum fund . They have said they will be by my side in my future journey too. It is not possible to go far without their support. ” On behalf of the organization, the current District Governor Ajoy Kumar Laha said, “We always try to stand by the people as much as we can. We are happy to be on the side of such an adventurous mission. And we are proud of Piyali’s achievement.”
