Prof. Samit Roy
It is indeed a momentous time for Adamas University as the Founder Chancellor Professor Samit Ray was conferred the Honoris Causa Doctorate in Education by Bath Spa University, United Kingdom, on July 26, 2022, for his pathfinding work in the field of education and development in West Bengal, and in India as a whole.
An educationist, a pioneer, and a philanthropist at heart, Prof. Samit Ray started his journey as a teacher with the vision of spreading true education. From a tutorial home endeavour he went on to found the Roy’s Institute of Competitive Examination Private Limited, popularly known as RICE, in 1985, to help students with preparatory training for State and Central government Service Examinations. An organisation that now has branches and testing centres in most districts of West Bengal.
In his endeavour to disseminate quality education and help young minds excel, Prof. Ray founded the Adamas Knowledge City in Barasat which is home to Adamas University and the Adamas World School, and the Adamas International School in Belgharia, with the goal of encouraging entrepreneurship, citizenship, and scholarship in students.
Prof. Ray has also left his handprint in the sphere of social development and humanitarian work in the State of West Bengal with the foundation of two philanthropic trusts, the Sachis Kiron Roy Memorial Trust, named after his late father, and the Samit Ray Foundation. Prof. Ray extended his generous hand to help the people in need even during the dark times of the Covid-19 lockdown. He converted the Adamas University campus into a quarantine centre and fed numerous mouths for months on end.
To get the chance to celebrate such a soul is an honour. He is a pride of our state.
